Update

Just a quick post as an update. I haven't been sewing and my sewjo is lying around somewhere like a deflated beach ball waiting for inspiration and energy to blow it back up.

I had forgotten how exhausting it is to work full time. The things we do to be able to afford more fabric!  (I know I know - 1st world problem!) I am enjoying my new job even though it is a long day.

I used to start my leisurely life reading blogs over breakfast. Now I put on my makeup - toast in one hand, BB Cream, primer and spatula in the other. It is an hour drive each way so I leave home at 7:30 in the morning and get back home after 6 at night. Weekends I spend cleaning and cooking meals to warm up for weeknights. So no time or energy for sewing.

I hope that I will acclimatise soon and at least get one day of my weekend to sew. I find I am too tired to turn on the laptop when I get home so I have been catching up on blog reading early Sunday mornings - so if I normally comment on your posts and haven't lately it could just be I haven't caught up with your blog yet, I do find that I have over 200 posts to read though.

My work is rewarding and it is a wonderful place to work so all is good, I am especially appreciating that I am getting paid on a regular basis! I imagine that once I get used to the long days (for me anyway) I will get my sewjo back.

I just wanted to touch base and let you know you won't be hearing from me quite as much but I am still here and watching with great interest what my sewing sisters are whipping up.

Here is a picture of my workplace and a group of students waiting to get stuck into lunch (we put on lunch every Wednesday) how cool is that!

  1. I am sure once you get settled in to your new routine, sewing will find its way back in!! Congratulations on the new job!

  2. Glad to hear that you are liking the new job and hope your commute gets managable. I am kind of in the same boat so have devoted a Saturday to sewing each week. Something to look forward to. I am 100% with you on the more money = more fabric thing. Xx

  3. You WILL get used to it, training is tiring at the best of times! When we opened the shop I actually used to fall asleep on the couch, which I had never done in my life before. I got used to it in about 3 months I think. And last weekend I taught solidly from 9am-4.30 pm three classes with only a few minutes set up time between them and I was fine. It's amazing!
Anyway enough of me, well done you, you are doing great and it's nice to know you're out there still :)

  4. So glad all is working out for you, the driving alone is horrendous and then training on top of that no wonder you are tired. Good Ieper to cook the meals re reheat makes looking after yourself much easier.

    Take care.

  5. It takes a few months to acclimatise to such a new routine - you will, but you are right, sewing time will have to be re-arranged. Once you adjust, perhaps you will be able to do the chores and cooking on Saturday, and a few quiet hours to sew on Sunday to recharge your batteries.

  6. I'm sure when you get used to the pace of your new lifestyle you will return to sewing. I read about a person who set herself half an hour a day to sew, would that work for you?

    1. Good idea but not for me. It takes me half an hour just to think about threading my machine LOL.

  7. So happy to hear you are doing well and like your new job. I know you will find your way back once you get used to the routine. I try to fit in a few minutes here, a few minutes there, and somehow I eventually wind up with garments. Enjoy the stimulation of being out all day every day. Carry a sketchbook so you can make note of ideas to be used in upcoming garments. We miss you but do understand.

  8. Ugh on the commute! I also have a 45-minute one-way commute and it is definitely tiring. I'm glad you enjoy the new job and hope to you get some sewing time soon!

  10. Oh I feel for you... I'm not sure how I'll go when I need to work full time. I think I better ease myself into it. At least you love it... imagine doing all that work and effort and not enjoying it! I think it is lovely that your work puts on lunch for everyone... very old school and a valuable gesture.

  12. Nice to hear from you. Yea to a new job! In our family/friends, we remind ourselves that we are "blessed with work." I hope that your new routine soon allows for time for you to take care of yourself, including time for your sewing. My husband has a saying, "You can't do it all, at least not at the same time." (I always reply, "Wish it weren't so.")

  13. I have been in your situation. When I was working I sometimes went weeks without touching my sewing machine. It's so sad that to have the money to do the things we enjoy most of us have to spend so much time at work and going to and from work that we lack the time and energy for anything else. Hang in there. You will find you sewjo and when you get it back you'll find that it's actually the perfect way to unwind.

  14. Glad to hear that all is well, though saddened to hear that you don't have the energy to sew . . . Not good news! Hope you are settling into your job, and finding some spare time to play! There's no point making all this money if you are not buying fabric and patterns 😎
